As soon as I saw this video, I knew I would have to blog it. The only problem is I just don’t know where to start.

I suppose I could begin by telling you that my students at AUC are writing a paper right now on “beauty,” how the concept is culturally determined, and the hidden (and sometimes not-so-hidden) costs that people, especially women, pay as they attempt to be “beautiful.”

One of the readings I had my students do before they sat down to write was The Beauty of Symmetryby Elizabeth Snead.

Snead argues that beautiful people are those whose faces and bodies are most symmetrical and that there is a “golden ratio” that determines perfect symmetry. This theory challenges the old adage that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” If Snead is right, beauty can be objectively and mathematically determined.

Reading Snead’s theory makes me feel very sad. I guess I’m just too much a romantic at heart to gladly accept what she has to say.

OK, back to the video. With all the makeup and computer software tools at the disposal of those who put together photo spreads in fashion magazines (and the type of billboards shown in the video) one wonders why they even need real women to appear in such photos. Perhaps they should use the computer to generate the perfect face and not worry about going through the hassle of all the steps shown in the video.

Actually, while I was watching the film, I began to think that the longer they worked on “correcting” and “beautifying” the model’s face, the less relevant the real flesh-and-blood woman became.

At what point in the video does the real woman disappear?

I’ve included a screenshot of the model, after her complete transformation, so you can see how little of her original look remains.

Beauty Tips for the Bath

One of the most important ways of taking care of your body is to have a good bath. Bathing can be a particularly relaxing and enjoyable experience. Making the right kind of arrangements in the bathroom and adding the right kind of accessories can make your bath refreshing and soothing.

For centuries herbal baths have been used for therapeutic purposes as well as for just plain relaxing.  The Egyptians made good use of a therapeutic herbal bath. Cleopatra is said to have bathed in milk and the flowers from herbs to keep her skin smooth and moist. Romans had community herbal baths, the forerunner to the modern spa. There are two ways to prepare an herbal bath.

One method is to make an infusion; simply steep about one half cup of the herb or herbs in two cups of boiling water for ten to twenty minutes. A second way is to fill a porous bag or an old stocking with herbs. Then hang the bag over the spigot so that the water flows through it into the tub. For a stronger bath you can use both methods. Use fresh herbs for the most benefit.

Bath and Beauty Tips

1. Do not expect miracles from pots and tubes. They are there to make you look more attractive, not to transform you completely.

2. A few inches of fresh ginger will warm the body and soothe joints. Slice, simmer in boiling water for a good half hour.

3. For an aroma therapeutic bath, keep tub water tepid. Hot water will cause those volatile oils to evaporate far too quickly.

4. Do exercise in a warm bathtub. Experts say there is definite additional benefit from exercises done under warm water.

5. Dry armpits thoroughly before applying deodorant as wet skin gives rise to bacteria.

6. Mix two tablespoons of shampoo, one of oil (olive, for instance), and a few drops of your favorite perfume in a bottle.

7. Oil your body before you go for your bath, as then scrubbing with soap will take away more dead skin than normal.

The latest fashion catches everyone’s eye. A famous person once said, fashion doesn’t have to do with clothes only, but we can find it everywhere, in our ideas, in the way we lead our lives, or in everything that’s happening around us. Fashion, it keeps on changing constantly and throughout the years. Almost everything in our appearance that could experience change has already been changed. Skirts are a very good example. Their length goes from so short that it hardly covers anything to hardly above the ankle. What was once fashionable soon turns unfashionable, and what was old quickly becomes new again.

All of these fashion trends are inherent, and they go as fast as they came. Fashion trends become popular very quickly, but their loss of popularity is quite dramatic. The very essence of fashion trends is ‘here today, gone tomorrow,’ so anything else that lasts longer and is eventually absorbed by society and turned into an everyday feature will no longer be a fashion trend.

Fashion trends with women’s tops, junior tops, junior’s clothing and women’s shoes regularly come and go. If you’re a fashion victim, you gotta be always trendy with jackets, skirts, leggings, colorful leggings, casual tops, and other trendy apparel. But being in accordance with the latest fashion trends is not always an easy task, not to mention the fact that chances are you won’t always look your best when you’re trying to be trendy with your clothing, shoes, leggings, and skirts.

Everything looks cool on models, but this doesn’t mean it will do the same magic for you. The best advice anyone could give you is to try and develop your own sense of style or at least try to choose from among the various styles that are already out there. Unfortunately, many of these are high fashion and may be a little out of reach. If so, what you can try is mass market design produced by retailers, which doesn’t come with a very impressive price tag.

Whatever your choice may be, you have to keep one thing in mind, a well-dressed person always gets a second look. Both your social and personal life will experience nothing but improvement if you have a strong sense of fashion and of the fashion trends.

Junior fashion trends borrow heavily from trends for grown ups, but include one important distinction: junior’s clothing fashions exist within strictly enforced fashion subcultures. For most junior’s clothing is short-hand for declaring which clique they belong to. Juniors tend to dress in clothing that announces their affiliations and interests with crystal clarity.

Women’s fashion will be moving toward stylish and elegant femininity this summer with pants taking a back seat to dresses and skirts. Bright colors are making a comeback this year with red-orange and fuchsia taking center stage. Cool, neutral colors may make a splash in lavender and aqua shades. For women who prefer darker tones, brown is predicted to be the new black with trendy colors ranging from rich chocolate to light khaki.

Top 8 Trends in Women’s Fashion

1. Dress Her in Complete Looks.

2. Skinny Jeans.

3. Fun Shoes that Really Express Her Personality.

4. Special Clothes That Will Make Her Stand Out.

5. Leggings Worn Under a Short Skirt.

6. Longer Tees and Other Long Tops.

7. Pastel Prints and How to Wear Them.

8. Designer or Designer Inspired Jeans.

Women should select the right dress according to the type of their body. Before choosing any dress, determine the type of body, based on height, weight, and age.

1. Wear free flowing clothes in a single tone for getting a slim and long look. Try fabrics such as georgette or chiffon for dresses.

2. Wear clothes according to size. Loose fitting clothes do not give a good look to anyone. One must wear fitted clothes to look gorgeous.

3. Be careful about wearing accessories as these speak more than the dress. Therefore, always watch out for accessories.

4. Women should be sure about jewelry; it can suit one’s face.

5. If one has thin waist, wear belts for feeling comfortable.

6. Invest in the bags, a basic wardrobe and shoes.

7. Women should not follow trends of fashion blindly.
